Overview And Highlights

Kailash Manasarovar via Lhasa has a very rare combination of culture, nature, heritage, pilgrimage and adventure. This journey to Kailash Manasarovar via Lhasa takes you to world famous Hindu and Buddhist shrines surrounded by no where else to be seen glorious landscapes.

Potala Palace
Kailash Manasarovar via Lhasa starts with blessings from Pashupatinath. From Pashupatinath, we travel to Boudhanatha. Boudhanath is one of the biggest and oldest stupa of Lord Buddha.

Next day we will fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa crossing highest mountains on earth. For the next 2 days, we explore fascinating city, Lhasa and local vicinity. We will also visit huge monasteries, Sera, Drepung and the world famous Patala Palace.

On the 6th day, our overland journey to Kailash Manasarovar via Lhasa starts in coach or jeep. For the next 4 days, we spend nights at hotels/guesthouses and visiting major tourist attractions en-route.

Holy lake Manasarovar
the 10th day of our tour, we reach the most beautiful and different world, Kailash Manasarovar. Kailash Manasarovar is unique and incomparable to rest of the places on this planet.

It is believed that a ritual bath in the sacred Manasarovar delivers a pilgrim to Brahma’s paradise. A drink of its

waters relinquishes the sins of hundred life times. A single circumambulation (Kora) of Mt, Kailash wipes out the sins of a lifetime.

2 days of stay at lake Manasarovar will give you plenty of time to do puja, take holy bath at Lake Manasarovar and enjoy the Heaven on Earth. We take “parikarma” (circumambulation) of Mansarovar by coach or jeeps on the 12th day of our trip.

Mt. Kailash
On 13th, we start “parikarma” (circumambulation) of Kailash on foot. Those who don’t take parikrama will drive to Darchen. They will stay in guesthouse and wait for rest of the group.

1 full day and 2 half day “parikrama” of Kailash ends on 15th day. The group re joins at Darchen. From Darchen we drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 2 : Visit Pashupatinath and Boudhanath

After Lunch- Detail briefing on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra. Rest of the day free for preparation.

Visit Pashupatinath Temple situated on the bank of Bagmati river is the holiest temple dedicated to Lord Shiva in Nepal. Also visit Boudhnath Stupa believed to be one of the biggest stupas in the world dedicated to Lord Buddha.

Day 3 : Transfer to airport. Fly to Gongar airport. Transfer to Lhasa.

Transfer to airport and fly over the highest mountains of the world to Gongar airport (approx 1 hr). If weather is clear one can see Mt. Everest very clearly. Transfer to Lhasa 3650 m (45 minutes). Rest of the day free for acclimatization

Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Bazar (down town of Lhasa):- the foremost temple in Tibet, built in the 7th century ad and now housing the most prized Buddhist relic, a 1300 year old Sakyamuni Buddha statue. The main section of the temple is topped with golden roofs found no where else, except in Tibet. Watch the many worshippers paying their respects and prostrating themselves at the main gate.

Sera Monastery:- Sera is more like a small town on the outskirts of Lhasa, at the base of Tatipu hill. It is the main teaching monastery and one of the three great Gelukpa Universities - one housing more than 5500 monks. It is also the birthplace of Tibetan medicine.

Potala Palace:- the dominant landmark of Lhasa, 117 meters above the city below construction started on the red hill in 1645 under the 5th Dalai Lama. An immense building has 13 stories with walls 3 meters thick and over 1000 rooms, containing 10,000 shrines and 200,000 statues. It was both the residence of the current Dalai Lama and the tomb to the former head of state. The Potala is full of elaborate art work and frescos that tell many stories.

Norbulingka Palace:- which is on the banks of Kyichu river and covers a total area of 360,000 square meters. It is the the summer palace of the Dalai Lamas (8th to 14th).

Visit Drepung Monastery situated in the western suburb of Lhasa city, formerly the largest and richest monastery in the world, with 10,000 monks, it now has only 400 monks. Day 5 : Drive to Gyantse

After breakfast drive to Gyantse crossing Kamba la (4794m) and the Karo la pass (5010m), both passes offer spectacular views. From Kamba la drive along Yamdrok tso, also known as the Turquoise lake.

Day 6 : Drive to Shigatse

In the morning visit Gyantse stupa and Khumbum monastery and drive to Shigatse. Visit the famous Tashilumpo monastery, seat of the Panchen Lama and also local market.

Day 7 : Drive to Saga

Day -8 : Drive to Dongba.

Day 9 : Drive to Chui-gompa (West shore of lake Manasarovar)

From Dongba drive to Paryang and then to Mayum river (15280 ft, 4630 mt) for 132 Km, 82 miles. Continue drive crossing Mayum La pass (17160 ft, 5200 mt) and have the first sight (Darshan) of Mt. Kailash. Further drive takes you to Horque, the eastern shore of Lake Manasarovar (15055 ft, 4590 mt). Total distance covered 330 Km, 206 miles (Approx 7 hrs). Stay at guesthouse.

Day 10 : Free of Pooja, Homa, Dhayan in lake Manasarovar

Day 11 : Drive to Darchen taking "parikrama" of lake Manasarovar.

Taking "parikrama" (driving around) of Manasarovar arrive Darchen (15098 ft, 4575 mt), located beneath the majestic holy Mountain Kailash. Stay at Guesthouse. Total distance 90 Km, 57 miles (Approx 4 hrs). Stay at guesthouse.

Day 12 : Drive to Sersang Valley and start parikrama (kora) of Kailash on foot. Arrive Diraphuk.

Drive to Sersang valley (15200 ft, 4606 mt), 8 Kms, 5 miles. Then trek through Shersang, the rebuilt Chukku Gompa, Dambing Donkhang (16137 ft, 4890mt.) and to Dirapuk (16200 ft, 4909mt). Distance 8 Km, 5 miles drive and 11 Km, 7 miles walk. Approx 6 hrs walk. Overnight in tent at Dirapuk. Yaks will carry our food, baggage and equipments. Those not doing the Parikrama, will drive to Darchen from Sersang and wait here for the parikrama group and stay at guesthouse.

Day 13 : Cross Dolma La and arrive Zutulphuk. Passing through highest altitude in our tour

Climb through a moraine to a meadow at 17193 ft, 5210mt and then pass rock cairns to emerge to Dolma La at 18579 ft, 5630 mt (highest altitude on this Yatra). From the pass descend via Guari Kunda Lake to the La Chukkir Villy at 16995 ft, 5150mt where you should look for the foot prints, which pilgrims believe belonged to Buddha. Descend further along, a long gentle path to Zutul-Puk Gompa (15807 ft, 4790mt.), where there is a cave in which the saint Milarepa is said to have meditated. Total distance 23 Km, 14 miles. Approx 10 hrs. Stay at tented camp.

Day 14 : End parikrama and drive to Saga

Trek along the Zhong Chu river to a bridge, cross it and climb a little before descending to 15213 ft, 4610 mt from where you will have a good view of Manasarovar Lake. Meet the rest of the group members at the pick-up point and drive to Paryang. Walking distance 11 Km, 7 miles (approximate 5 hrs). Total driving distance 281 Km, 175 miles (approximate 5 hours)

  • Expenses of personal nature such as insurance, beverage, telephone calls, tips etc.
  • Charges of pony and driver and porter if required to ride on for Kailash parikrama.
